HARDWARE

Hardware is the object that you can actually touch. For example is disk drive, display screen, keyboard, printer and chips. Whereas software is something that cannot be touch. Software just exist as idea, concept or symbol but has no substance. If we want to do an analogy, book can be suitable example. The pages and ink are the hardware while the word, sentence or paragraph are the software. So, a computer without software is just like a book full of blank pages. We need software to make the computer useful while the book need words to make it more meaningful.

Our personal computer that we use nowadays is made up of multiple physical component of hardware. This hardware can be install with system software call operating system and many other software application that is to perform its desire function. Typical personal computer consist of chasis in desktop contain main component such as motherboard. Motherboard is the large rectangular board with integrated circuitry that connect the rest of the part of computer such as CPU,RAM and disk drive. There are also peripheral connected via the ports or the expansion slot. Power supply is another example of hardware. It convert alternating current electric power to low voltage DC power for internal component of computer. Power supply unit used in computer are nearly always ‘switch mode power supply’. This SPMS provide regulated direct current power at several voltage required by motherboard and also accessories such as disk drive and cooling fans.
